Wow! What a week it’s been! During trip week, Hamamah Havurah traveled to New York City for numerous visits to the city's numerous memorials and museums, various non-profits and even a sit-down with Young Judaea’s Executive Director Simon Klarfeld. On our trip, we met with the President and CEO of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, discussed what it means to be a leader within our communities and learned about Judaism’s call to action for a better world. We explored the meaning of leadership, and witnessed what it means to be a leader within the Jewish community.
Our teens also had the opportunity to lead activities for campers at the Jewish Community House and Shorefront-Y Day Camp in Brooklyn. Our Hamamah teens embraced the challenge and learned from their experiences as counselors.
Though only a few days remain within our session, I’m extremely excited for what’s left for Hamamah. Our teens will participate in camp’s annual Yom Yarok (Green Day), which will involve the teens taking over parts of our camp and running programs for our younger teens. I look forward to seeing our teens accept responsibility and lead as camp’s future staff.
